What is Mobile-Friendliness?

Mobile Design is the ability for your website to have alternate layouts or functionality depending on what kind of device your visitors are using. (ie. Mobile phones, Tablets, Desktop Computers, Televisions, etc.) This design approach not only makes your website “mobile friendly”, but also gives your website a big advantage over your competitors.

At first glance it doesn’t seem necessary, however, it impacts far more than how your website looks. The screen real estate on many devices require a much different design strategy in order to remain functional, yet pleasant to use. An example that we use everyday is the menu on mobile phones. It addresses the limited width of a mobile phone or small screen tablet, but still provides functionality and the flexibility to add more menu items later on.

Search Engine Optimization(SEO) is another aspect that is hugely important. As of April, 2015, Google Search expanded its use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking metric. This change affects searches done on mobile devices worldwide and has a significant impact on the visibility of your website.

In fact, this is extremely important because as of 2015, mobile usage online surpassed desktops. And just today (November 4th, 2016), Google announced it begun experiments to make their index mobile-first.
